Metro Tunnel opening - Photography + Video
The Opening Day of Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel happened in two parts for our team of videographers and photographers that were positioned across the many brand new glistening stations. The Before and the After.
Before: Moments prior to the big opening, our team had the privilege of being some of the last people to be alone in the new Metro Tunnel stations. For 9 years we've been capturing this underground project, something that felt like a secret, unknown to everyone who walked on above ground. Whilst this is no longer our secret, we are so proud to have been part of the Grand Opening and to relish in this quiet moment before the crowds flooded in. Alone this final time allowed us to let the architectural nature of the space guide our lens, an exciting contrast to our years of construction milestone and progress imagery. It was amazing to see how the space had changed, to see the final details in place without anything else in the way.
After: Moments later, the flood gates were opened, and the public were let in on our secret. There was an immediate buzz in the air, gunzels and average Melbournians alike eager to be the first to ride the loop. This was a hard pivot from the quiet stillness before opening into event photography and videography, matching the energy and keeping our eye trained for moments amongst the organised chaos. Through the hustle and bustle, each of our photographers and videographers, posted across each of the new stations, captured the excitement. We took stills and video, covering the fun opening shenanigans, from mimes, to three piece bands in scuba suits, as well as the families and folks thrilled just to be amongst it.
The hustle and bustle of Opening Day for the Metro Tunnel! What a treat to capture a video of the fun and organised chaos as everyone boarded the first trains and celebrated this huge milestone.
